Nyssa Fire Department in History: Minimize
June 4, 1974.... It was the worst, and perhaps the best, night in the history of the Nyssa Fire Department. A raging fire was consuming the heart of the community, the Nyssa Junior and Senior High School. It was the worst night because the dangerous blaze destroyed the Junior High School and gymnasium building. However, it was the best night also, due to the courageous and hard work of the firemen, the High School building was saved. That building became the Junior High School, and two years later the community opened the new High School and District Auditorium and Gymnasium.
