 Kid's Fair Scheduled Minimize
Kids Fair for Children's Safety
by Angela Livas

On May 3rd, 2008 the Kid’s Fair will be joining forces with Nyssa Chamber of Commerce and Nyssa Police Department.  Along with the citywide yard sale, we will be putting on a Kid’s Safety Fair from 9:00am to 12:00 pm.  The fair will finish with a parade at 12:00 pm.

The Kid’s Fair committee is now under the Malheur County Fair Board, which has allowed them to begin reaching out to smaller towns.  They started the first Nyssa Kid’s Fair last fall, and will be expanding it this year to include a parade, thanks to the Nyssa Police Department.

The goal of the Kid’s Fair has been to provide a way to educate families in safety for the summer.  This also gives law enforcement and safety officials an opportunity to interact with youth, providing good role models.

Since the first Kid’s Fair, which was held at the Malheur County Fairgrounds, one thousand children have been ID’d & fingerprinted.  Safety education in fire, water, railroad crossing, bicycle, scooter, child safety seats and highway safety has been given.  Programs have been able to provide information on drugs and alcohol, stranger awareness, art and health.

Nyssa City looks forward to having this as an annual event and watching it’s growth for years to come.
